The government in Slovakia has extended the nationwide exit restrictions until November 8. People are only allowed to leave their houses and apartments, among other things, to run necessary errands. On Wednesday, the cabinet decided on a decisive change: anyone who has a negative corona test may again move freely throughout the country as of November 2.

The background to this is that the first round of nationwide mass tests begins this weekend. All persons between the ages of ten and 65 are to be tested. Participation is voluntary in itself, but critics complain that there is little choice. The medical association even spoke of “blackmail”. Antigen tests are to be used, which provide quick results, but are considered less sensitive than PCR tests.

Slovakian health authorities reported 2,887 new coronavirus cases within 24 hours on Wednesday, writes the APA. The number of coronavirus-related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 184, but Slovakia only counts deaths for which another cause of death has been ruled out. The EU member state has just under 5.5 million inhabitants.
